About Us
The Organization of Sports Fishermen Konjic (O.S.R. Konjic) has been organizing sport fishing in the upper reaches of the Neretva River for almost a century. Established in 1927, it is one of the oldest fishing associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, holding a significant place in the history of fly fishing.
Our association is the exclusive fishing rights holder for the Konjic fishing zone. We organize sport fishing activities in the municipality and city of Konjic, covering an area of 1169 km². The Konjic area has a remarkable permanent surface river network 476.3 km long, including the Neretva River and its tributaries.
Our association’s headquarters are located in the heart of Konjic, near the historic Old Stone Bridge. Here, you can get all the information about fly fishing, receive guidance, arrange accommodations, obtain fishing permits, and receive any other assistance you need.
The Neretva River
The name “Neretva” comes from the Illyrian name “NERA-ETWA,” which means “flowing goddess.”
The Neretva River’s Length and Route
The Neretva River is a 230 km long river that mostly flows through Bosnia and Herzegovina (208 km) and a small part through Croatia (22 km) before it empties into the Adriatic Sea. It is the longest tributary of the Adriatic Sea on its eastern coast.
The Unique Characteristics and Ecosystem
The Neretva rises in the mountainous areas of northern “High” Herzegovina. For most of its course, it has the characteristics of a mountain river. Together with its many tributaries, it forms a unique natural entity and ecosystem in this part of Europe.
The Upper Course and Konjic City
The beautiful upper course of the Neretva River originates above the Konjic city. Konjic is situated on the Neretva River and is known as the “and” between Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is positioned on the main road between Sarajevo and Mostar and is about a one-hour drive from their airports.
Fly Fishing
Fly fishing on the Neretva River in Konjic, especially in its upper reaches, is an experience you won’t forget. The beautiful natural surroundings, river canyons, breathtaking views, friendly hosts, delicious food, and great company create an incredible atmosphere.
Fly fishing is available along the entire Neretva River and its tributaries. In the Konjic fishing area, two special fly fishing zones with catch-and-release rules have been established. Daily permits for these zones cost 20 EUR, while weekend permits cost 40 EUR (valid for three days).
The river is home to five species of salmonid family, including the glorious endemic Softmouth Trout, Brown Trout, Grayling, Rainbow Trout, and rare wild Marble Trout. These species make fly fishing on the Neretva very unique.
Fly Fishing Zones
The Glavatičevo Fly Fishing Zone
The “Glavatičevo” Fly Fishing Zone is located in the upper reaches of the Neretva River, in a beautiful valley where the village of Glavatičevo resides.
The zone is well-marked and under video surveillance! Its total length is 3.5 km, and the landscape is stunning. The Neretva’s clear turquoise waters blend with the river’s sounds and surrounding nature.
Fly fishermen primarily visit this part of the Neretva River because of the Softmouth Trout and rare wild Marble Trout, as well as the overall impression that fly fishing in this place is like in the good old days.
The Konjic Fly Fishing Zone
The “Konjic” Fly Fishing Zone is the urban part of the Neretva River that runs through Konjic.
This area is popular among fly fishing enthusiasts due to its trophy trout population. Additionally, plenty of restaurants and bars are nearby, making it a great place to socialize after a successful day of fly fishing.
During the summer, the area attracts many tourists. So don’t be surprised if you receive applause from The Old Stone Bridge for catching a trout!
